Body Kits - 5 Factors in Choosing the Right Kit For Your Car

by T. Walker

When it comes to customizing your ride, one easy way to give your car that extra something is with a body kit. Custom bumpers and side skirts made a natural, sporty, addition to your car, and very likely it will cost you less than that full on custom paint job (also a great addition).

To really get some bang for your buck requires a little thought before selecting your kit. By taking a look at a few factors, before you fork out your hard-earned money, you will ensure that you're completely satisfied with the job when it's finished.

It isn't that simply selecting a kit and installing it won't work. It very likely will. When you take the time to make an informed purchase decision though, you will be happier with your body kit in the long run, and you'll also be able to choose the right parts for the job.

With that said, let's look at 5 factors in making an informed decision before you make a purchase.

5 Factors in Choosing a Body Kit

In most cases choosing the right body kit for you is as simple as looking at: your car, yourself, the road you drive on, and obviously the look you are going for. I have also made budget a factor (since it is for many people).

1. The Car Itself: Before you decide on a brand or style for your car you should look at the car itself. Will your car look good with a lowered look that comes from custom bumpers and side skirts? A good way to find out is to simply Google your make/model with the term body kits. You're likely to find that someone else has installed one, and you'll be able to make a decision from there.
2. The Way you Drive: Another factor, that many often overlook, is the way you drive. Do you have a tendency to hit every pothole in your path? If you do you, should consider purchasing a fiberglass-based kit that can be repaired when you break it.
3. The Roads you Drive on: Along with the way you drive, roads are also a factor. A urethane kit will have more dent resistance, and be less likely to break. But, if you drive some rough roads the more repairable fiberglass body kit may still be a better choice. Roads should also help you determine what height it appropriate. You don't want to lower your car to 2" if you're consistently driving roads with 4" dips!
4. The Look you want: After taking a look at the first three elements you can begin to choose a kit that fits with the look you want. The easiest way to do this is to browse sites that carry a number of body kits, such as our own, or to look at each manufacturers websites individually. You'll find pictures really are worth a thousand words when it comes to choosing a body kit.
5. Other Required Parts (Your Budget): The final factor you want to consider is the other parts you may require. If your budget is $1,000 and your body kit is going to blow that budget, then you obviously won't have money left over for custom suspension, exhaust, etc. Some body kits do require these additional elements and you should be aware of them before ordering your kit.

By paying attention to these 5 elements you will enable yourself, not only to stay within your budget, but also to choose a kit that will last. A few minutes spent considering your purchase really can make the difference between "yeah, it looks okay", and "oh man, that car's awesome"!

body kits for many makes and models of cars and trucks.
